The WHO European Healthy Cities Network invites you to a thematic webinar on the role of the arts in health and well-being. The event will explore how the arts can contribute to healthy behaviours, improve well-being and treat diseases throughout the lifespan, with a special focus on urban initiatives. This perspective is supported by a 2019 scoping review published by WHO/Europe, which has led to growing recognition of the positive impact of arts and culture on health across the region.
The specific objectives of the webinar are to:
We will discuss the potential impact of arts in cities on health and wellbeing and encourage city and national networks to promote arts engagement at local and national levels; share research and case studies from the newly redesignated Collaborating Centre for Healthy Urban Environments (University of the West of England, Bristol) and members of the European Healthy Cities Network; and, through the Healthy Cities Network working groups, support the building of collaboration between the health sector and arts communities to maximise the health benefits of arts engagement.
Expected outcomes are:
Raising awareness: increased understanding of the importance of the arts in promoting health and wellbeing. Sharing knowledge: insights from practical examples and case studies shared by experts and network members. Networking opportunities: connections are made between participants to foster future collaborations through working groups.
The webinar will feature the following speakers:
Associate Professor Michael Buser, WHO Collaborating Centre for Healthy Cities and the Environment (University of the West of England), Technical Officer Nils Fietzsche, Behavioural and Cultural Insights Unit, WHO Regional Office for Europe, Associate Professor Nicola Holt and members of the European Healthy Cities Network.
