MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Cybercrimes Group (ACG) has begun investigating the contents of communications and other devices seized from a suspected Chinese spy arrested in Makati City last month.
The Criminal Investigation and Determination Group (CIDG) on Thursday night handed over to the ACG items seized from Yuhan Liu, a Chinese man who was arrested in San Isidro village in May last year on suspicion of illegal possession of firearms and communication hacking devices.
“After the testing, the ACG will provide the results,” Maj. Gen. Leo Francisco, director of CIDG, said at a press conference.
Among these items are three mobile phones of different brands, a laptop, a computer central processing unit, an Apple tablet and a radio receiver.
The CIDG also handed over the drone it seized from Liu to the ACG.
Francisco said the court had given police 10 days to comply with the warrant ordering them to search the computer data.
He said the warrant would be returned to the court within the time frame with or without outcome.
“If there is not enough time in the 10 days, we will apply for additional time to get tested,” Francisco said.
Investigators are verifying reports that Liu, who is being held under maximum security at Camp Crame, is a spy.
