Kitchens for Good is more than just a thrift store.
SAN DIEGO — When cooking, having the right tools makes a big difference.
But let’s be realistic: these things can get pricey — unless you shop at Kitchens for Good Shop, where getting the right tools at 75% off can make all the difference.
Kitchens for Good Shop is located in the secluded Pacific Beach neighborhood of Hornblende, and the inventory is handpicked by Operations Manager Mary Scafidi.
“It’s curated around kitchenware. It’s all second-hand kitchenware and household goods,” Scafidi said.
And we guarantee you’ll get some great stuff.
“You might find a Le Creuset or Vita-Mix blender. You might find beautiful Lenox china. Everything you need for your kitchen,” she said.
Prices start at .99.
“We have four different colored tags in our store and something is on sale every day, 50 percent off every day,” she said.
Kitchens for Good is not a museum!
“We’re here to sell our merchandise. We have over 25,000 items in the store,” she said.
He also runs an eBay store.
“These are very special vintage pieces, a little pricey, but that’s all they are,” Scafidi said.
But Kitchens for Good is more than just a thrift store.
“At the core of our organization, Kitchens for Good is an apprenticeship program for people who struggle with any type of employment barrier,” she said.
Kitchens for Good offers free tuition to people looking to pursue a career in the restaurant industry.
“We help people getting out of prison, people getting out of drug addiction, people trying to get out of homelessness. We train them to find work in the culinary industry,” she said.
So, not only can you get great deals on essential kitchen items, but you can do so much more.
“It touches my heart and the heart of everyone in the organization. We’re doing this for somebody,” Scafidi said.
