Grunge legends Pearl Jam have announced further tour cancellations after announcing health issues within the band. The affected tour dates include upcoming European shows in addition to their London show which was cancelled last week.
The Eddie Vedder-fronted band was due to play Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Saturday, June 29. However, the band was forced to cancel the show at the last minute, much to the disappointment of those who had made travel and accommodation plans.
Pearl Jam addressed fans on social media, stating that they unfortunately had to cancel the tour “due to a band illness.” They reassured fans that they knew “many of our fans had made travel plans based on the tour schedule” and that this was “the last thing they wanted.”
“Due to the current health situation and the need to avoid further damage, we were left with no other choice,” they continued. “We are deeply disappointed that we will not be able to play one of our favorite cities on this tour. Despite our best efforts, existing schedule conflicts meant that rescheduling was not possible at this time. We deeply appreciate your support and apologize to our amazing Pearl Jam community for any inconvenience and disappointment caused.”
At the time of this announcement, Pearl Jam had hoped to resume their European tour this week, but the band has now announced that their Berlin shows on July 2 and 3 have also been cancelled. Refunds will be available at the point of purchase.
The band issued another announcement on social media acknowledging the band member’s lingering illness. “We regret to inform you that Pearl Jam’s planned concerts in Berlin on Tuesday and Wednesday have been cancelled,” the band said in a statement via X. “Despite everyone’s best efforts, the band has not yet fully recovered.”
The statement does not provide any details about the nature of the illness or those affected. It seems to suggest that multiple members are ill, suggesting that this is a contagious disease that will hopefully pass in time. However, nothing has been confirmed at this time.
The statement continues: “We understand the impact of this decision and are deeply aware that so many of you have invested your time, money and emotional energy into obtaining tickets and seeing the band, and we are heartbroken to have to disappoint you. We would also like to thank the many people who work so hard to make these shows possible.”
Rescheduling proved difficult for an American group touring Europe, leading to cancellations and refunds. Pearl Jam hopes to return to the cancelled venues in the future if possible, but has not yet made any concrete plans. “We never take decisions lightly and will do everything we can for you all,” they conclude. “We wish it were possible to reschedule this tour and we hope to be back in Berlin soon.”
Pearl Jam’s concerts scheduled for Tuesday, July 2 and Wednesday, July 3 in Berlin have been canceled. Tickets will be refunded at the time of purchase.
We appreciate your continued understanding and support.
