Zalando, one of Germany’s largest online retailers, wants to boost flat business by expanding into B2B.
The company has maintained its gross merchandise volume (GMV) and revenue from 2022 to 2023. Currently, the company is rolling out new strategies for growth over the next five years.
The role of B2B in Zalando’s revenue generation
“Generating more revenue from B2B e-commerce is a big priority,” said co-CEO Robert Gentz.
“The company’s recently launched Zeos business will enable Zalando to shape the European fashion and lifestyle industry beyond its own consumer business,” the Zalando announcement said. “It will also position the company as a key driver of e-commerce transactions outside of Zalando, for example through its About You, ASOS and Otto marketplaces.”
Over the past 15 years, Zalando has built a strong operational logistics and technology infrastructure tailored to the needs of the fashion and lifestyle industry, the company said, and now this e-commerce and logistics platform is part of Zeos.
Our logistics network consists of 12 fulfillment centers and approximately 20 return centers, plus relationships with more than 40 local carriers.
How Zeos works
Zeos’ technology is enabled by the company’s own e-commerce platform and Tradebyte, a fashion and lifestyle marketplace integrator owned by Zalando since 2016.
“Zeos is uniquely positioned to help brands and other fashion retailers overcome the complexities inherent in cross-border e-commerce in Europe, where they face a multitude of languages, currencies, payment methods, delivery and return options, as well as the need to manage multiple sales channels,” Zalando said.
According to Zalando, Zeos has generated sales of approximately 900,000 euros to date.
“Zeos runs on Zalando’s operational infrastructure and is now creating an operating system for the fashion and lifestyle industry to enable the entire multi-channel direct-to-consumer selling value chain, from integration to customer fulfilment,” Zalando said.
In 2023, Zalando’s GMV will be €14.6 billion, up compared to €14.8 billion in 2022. Meanwhile, revenue will be €10.1 billion in 2023, up compared to $10.3 billion in 2022.
