Hellotickets, a global platform and passionate provider of travel experiences, has added Budapest to its list of European summer no-go areas, which also includes the Polish capital Warsaw and the island of Corfu.
Here are the best cities for hay fever sufferers
Hellotickets, a leading global platform for travel experiences, tours and activities, helping explorers across 15 countries discover more wonders of the world, has compiled a list of the best and worst European travel destinations for hay fever sufferers. Budapest did not perform well on the list.
“In the UK, 49% of the population suffer from hay fever, particularly during pollen season from early spring to mid-autumn, making it one of the most common allergies in the UK,” HelloTicket writes.
If you have tree pollen allergies, you should avoid traveling in the spring. Instead, planning your vacation between July and January is your best option. If you’re particularly sensitive to grass pollen, you should avoid early summer. Finally, if ragweed is what you’re most allergic to, you should avoid early fall, Hellotickets adds.
The best cities for people who suffer from tree pollen are Lisbon, Athens, Reykjavik and Madrid. When it comes to grass pollen, Athens, London, Reykjavik and Dublin come out on top. On the other hand, people who suffer from weed pollen should go to Reykjavik in September and October, Paris in November, Lisbon in December and Madrid in January and February.
Budapest is one of Europe’s no-go zones for summer
A lot depends on the exact time of year you travel – for example, Dublin is the worst destination for grass hay fever sufferers in September and October, but the best in January and February. You can find the chart from that issue of Hellotickets here.
HelloTickets listed Budapest, along with Warsaw and Corfu, as a no-go area in Europe for the summer, and data provided by the Copernicus air monitoring service used by the company showed that pollen levels in the air in Budapest were high, index.hu reported.
Still, Budapest is a good choice in May and June as pollen concentrations are low; in July, August and early autumn the situation becomes worse and unbearable for hay fever sufferers. Zurich is the polar opposite of Budapest; pollen concentrations are very high in spring and early summer, but much lower in the late summer and autumn months.
