Having a smart speaker in your living room is great, but if you’re putting a connected device in a child’s room, you want to make sure it’s safe.
One example is the popular baby monitor, which allowed hackers to spy on live video of parents and babies. Yeah, that’s scary. I’m not being stingy here. I’ve found the top-rated, super-secure smart devices to make the birth of your baby a lot less stressful.
Babysense Respiratory Monitor ($127.50)
This little gadget fits under your baby’s mattress and alerts you if your baby has problems breathing or sleeping. It doesn’t use Wi-Fi or the internet, so there’s no risk of it being hacked.
SNOO Smart Sleeper Crib ($1,695)
This crib will help you and your baby get a better night’s sleep. It has a built-in swaddle, self-rocking, white noise, and an app. SNOO claims your baby will sleep an extra hour or two per night. It’s on the pricey side, but if it lives up to even half that price, it’s worth it.
Nanit Pro Camera ($193.52)
Nanit Pro Camera lets you keep an eye on your kids from anywhere with high quality video and secure encryption. It notifies you of movement, crying, changes in breathing or if your baby or toddler enters a “no go area” like a room door or stairs.
Munchkin Bluetooth-Enabled Swing ($198.50)
We love this little rocking chair for entertaining our kids when they’re awake, and the clever thing about it is that it has a few different rocking styles and a range of classic and soothing sounds to choose from – you can even hook up your own audio.
Genie antibacterial and deodorizing diapers ($47.99)
A newborn can go through up to 3,000 diapers in their first year. Diaper Genies are an oldie but now much better product. The bags have antibacterial technology built in to prevent your whole house from smelling and also inhibit the growth of bacteria on the film.
Hatch Rest ($59.99)
This smart lamp creates the perfect sleep environment with soothing colors, white noise, nature sounds, lullabies and more. It also doubles as a dim nightlight for late-night feedings. When your child gets older, you can set it to gradually brighten in the morning for a natural wake-up call.
🐤 A farmer friend of mine used his COVID-19 stimulus money to buy chicks. He didn’t put any money into them and got them for free. (Oops, I heard a chuckle!)
