Pet healthcare company FirstVet today announced the successful completion of a €20 million Series C funding round.
Founded in Stockholm in 2016, FirstVet improves the efficiency of veterinary care by being the first point of contact for pet owners. FirstVet’s app connects pet owners with registered veterinarians, providing expert advice and clinic referrals.
In select markets, the company’s services also include pet stores and pharmacies where pet owners can access and purchase veterinarian-tested recommended products and medications.
FirstVet works with over 60 leading insurance companies around the world, including Nationwide in the US, and serves over 5 million insured pets at no extra cost.
The platform currently supports 400 veterinarians and nurses.
The round was led by TELUS Global Ventures, the strategic investment arm of global technology company TELUS, and was supported by existing investors OMERS Ventures, Mubadala Capital and Cathay Innovation.
“FirstVet is the only company providing pet telehealth on a global scale, and TELUS Global Ventures is the ideal partner for our next stage of growth,” said David Prien, CEO and co-founder of FirstVet.
“As digital veterinary services grow in popularity driven by rapidly changing regulations, we are excited to bring our proven, successful platform from Europe to North America. The North American market is booming and poised to embrace us. We have already established ourselves as an essential telehealth partner to pet insurers in Europe. With the backing of TELUS Global Ventures, we look to expand our services in North America and broaden our reach through new types of partnerships.”
“As a global leader in identifying and supporting innovative companies, we are pleased to increase our investment in FirstVet, a leading pet telehealth business providing comprehensive digital care to pet owners looking for the best care for their pets,” said Terry Doyle, Managing Partner at TELUS Global Ventures.
The funding will help FirstVet scale its business and accelerate product development to explore new types of partnerships.
